When Mohammed Afzali came to the UK from Afghanistan he struggled to secure work, despite holding a degree from his home country.
So he enrolled on a distance learning course with Telford College, completing a level two certificate in business administration, followed by an online course in team leading.
And they have helped him to secure a job as a case manager at Maximus UK, which specialises in helping people through challenging times, and back into employment.
“Both courses were incredibly helpful,” said Telford-based Mohammed. “After adding them to my CV, I started receiving job interview offers, and I’m happy to share that I recently secured the job I was aiming for.
“Prior to this I had struggled to find a job and faced multiple rejections. This was largely because I hadn’t taken any short or long-term courses in the UK and lacked UK-based work experience.
“Since I had previously worked in an admin department but had limited knowledge in the field, I decided to enrol on the Telford College distance learning course to gain more expertise and improve my employability.
“The course curriculum, tutor feedback, and some additional research helped me successfully complete these programmes.”
Nearly 350 people have already enrolled on distance learning courses with Telford College since the start of the academic year.
There are more than 30 courses of offer, spanning topics such as health and social care, business administration, customer service, counselling, education, and much more.
Distance learning co-ordinator Isabelle Eddies said: “If physically being in college is something you can’t or don’t want to do, our distance learning programmes could be just what you’re looking for.
“The courses give you the flexibility to study when, where, and how you want – with the added bonus of no course fees. All we need is your commitment.
“Most courses run for 12 weeks, and you can enrol at any time. You can learn online, or we can post a workbook out to you if you don’t have access to a computer or laptop.”
