Music Production – Level 3

About the course

This two-year course is taught in our state-of-the-art music centre and Apple Mac Suite. You will develop your technical skills and knowledge for both live music and music production.   

You will learn how to create, compose and produce music on industry standard Digital Audio Workstations (Logic and Ableton).  You will learn how to produce music through sequencing, sampling and synthesis; in addition to how to professionally record, mix and master music. 

You’ll get hands-on with projects working with musicians in our industry standard recording studios, and developing sound engineering skills for live music events, working on both analogue and digital systems.   

You’ll learn about all the employment opportunities available and routes into the music industry, in addition to working on both individual and group projects to develop your skills and portfolio to be successful within the music industry. 

You will be taught by passionate tutors and guest lecturers, both with extensive industry experience, who will encourage you to broaden your skillset to be an employable, all-round, modern musician/music technologist. You will be assessed through written and performance-based assignments.

Careers and progression

Progressing to: Higher education, apprenticeship, or jobs such as professional session musician, live sound engineer, or songwriter 
Aspirational careers: Music Producer, Artist/Musician, Record Label Manager, Live Event Manager, Radio Producer, Performing Artist, Composer for Film & TV 

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English or maths and ideally a GCSE or level 2 music qualification. You will also be required to audition (performance pathway) or provide a recorded portfolio (production pathway). 

Additional information

Resources – You will have access to our extensive range of musical instruments and equipment, however we recommend that you have your own instrument and a set of headphones (with a 3.5mm jack connection). 

You will go on trips to local music venues to perform, and visit recording studios for hands-on learning experiences. You will also visit universities for workshops and have guest speakers from the music industry and universities come into college to enrich your learning and help you decide on your future progression and career aims.
