Telford College is launching another free digital skills training course this summer, with the help of one of the town’s biggest employers.
The four-week Step Into Digital work programme has been designed with the help of Capgemini, and is aimed at people looking to begin a technology career.
“It is perfect for people looking to take their first steps into the digital sector, who want to learn more about Microsoft software applications and their use in the workplace,” said Beckie Bosworth, Telford College’s director of apprenticeships and employer engagement.
“It’s also an opportunity to learn more about important issues such as cyber security, and coding.”
She added: “The idea for the programme came out of our Digital Employer Skills Hub here at the college, where we work with local employers to help meet their skills needs.”
The course has been created by the college with assistance from officials at Capgemini in Telford town centre, and involves a week of work placement. Candidates also get chance to participate in mock interview and feedback sessions.”
This latest free course, which starts on June 2, is primarily targeted at people aged 19 and over, who are currently unemployed.
Beckie added: “Capgemini will deliver sessions on issues such as cyber security and explain some of the career opportunities currently on offer in the sector.
“Everyone who completes the programme will also receive a nationally recognised level one extended certificate in employability and level two customer service qualification.”

Telford College’s Digital Employer Skills Hub was launched in November 2022 to give businesses an opportunity to feed directly into the college’s curriculum planning, and to share best practice.
Beckie said it was part of the college’s strategy to help upskill Telford residents and respond to the constantly changing needs of the local labour market.
“There are so many exciting employment opportunities in the technology sector right now, and we want to make sure that local people have the skills required to take full advantage.”
