The immersive learning technology we are now using at Telford College to train the next generation of healthcare professionals has received international recognition.

It simulates health and social care workplace environments, and is helping us to deliver work-ready students to the NHS.

It is a tremendous example of the college reinforcing its support for the NHS and care sector, and emphasises our partnership approach to the delivery of education and training.

We have already showcased this innovative technology at a global conference in the United States, and I’m delighted that it has now received recognition in this year’s Shropshire Chamber Business Awards by being shortlisted for one of the top prizes.

It is our job to ensure students have the best possible experience at college, and to do all we can to support them to achieve during their time with us. Technology plays a vital role in this, by making the learning experience more relevant and meaningful.

Virtual reality can also be a game-changer when it comes to bridging the gap between theory and practice, especially in sectors where it is often difficult to secure ‘real-life’ work placements.

Our shortlisting in the Innovation category at the Shropshire Chamber Business Awards is one of three successes for Telford College in this year’s competition.

We were also delighted to see two of our students – Keely-Hill Harding and Kimberley Pearce – named in the final of the Inspirational Adult Learner Award.

Our work with adult learners has gone from strength to strength, supporting many to upskill or retrain to get back into employment.

It’s never too late to learn a new skill in this fast-moving world. We regularly support adult learners who thought they had missed their chance to gain the kind of qualifications which could further their careers. We can support people so this does not have to be the case.

It is heart-warming to hear these people’s stories of resilience, determination, and the power of lifelong learning to broaden career opportunities.

This is a very exciting year for the college as we continue to extend our academic presence in Telford and strive to meet the needs of the communities we are proud to serve.
