About the course

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music Industry Skills is a one-year course that offers skills development in music – both performance and production. You will develop a practical understanding of the music industry, as well as a broad range of skills such as: composition and song writing, performing in a band, organising live events, using recording studios, and music production. Taught by experienced and passionate music tutors in our industry-standard music centre, you will get advice and expertise to help you succeed in your future career. Industry links with the BBC, professional musicians and technicians and local music venues provide amazing opportunities and insight. Your course will conclude with a big music project and a plan for self-promotion in the industry.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 3 including English or maths. You will also be required to audition or provide a recorded portfolio

Additional information

Resources – You will have access to our extensive range of musical instruments and equipment. However, we recommend that you have your own set of headphones (with a mini-jack connection) and that guitarists bring their own instrument into college for rehearsal sessions, including plectrums, capo, strap and tuner. Drummers should have their own drum sticks too. You will go on trips to local music venues to perform, and have guest speakers from the music industry and universities come into college to enrich your learning and help you decide on your future progression and career aims.
