This course is suitable for those who are aged 19+ and are looking to gain a qualification which will aid them in starting a career in barbering. This course will equip you with the essential underpinning theory knowledge and practical skills required to provide professional barbering services, such as health and safety requirements, consultation, shampoo and conditioning, cutting and styling men’s hair and facial hair using a range of techniques, including uniform layer and short graduation. You will also be confident to use a range of tools and equipment such as razors and clippers, be able to fade hair and create a range of necklines, from square to tapered.
You will develop and apply your skills working in a real-life salon environment at The Retreat, our onsite commercial salon, practicing and gaining assessments on members of the public. Theory knowledge will be tested through online exams and written assignments throughout the course, and you will participate in an internal competition, creating an image to demonstrate all you have learnt, helping you to develop your portfolio.
You will need to purchase a uniform and a kit – these are required for all practical sessions. This course may be funded, or you may qualify for partial funding. Speak to our student services team to find out if you are eligible.
