Bricklaying – Level 1

About the course

This qualification allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for a bricklaying career. Working in our designated construction centre, you will be taught by qualified, experienced staff with many years of trade experience, using professional quality tools in an environment which simulates real-life building work. Areas of study include: Principles of building construction; information and communication; health and safety; producing thin joint masonry and masonry cladding; building solid walling; isolated and attached piers; interpreting working drawings; constructing cavity walling forming masonry structures. You can progress into employment, to City & Guilds qualifications, an apprenticeship Level 2 NVQ diploma in Trowel Occupations, or the Level 3 diploma in construction.

Careers and progression

Progressing to: City & Guilds courses, apprenticeships, or Level 2 Bricklaying or Construction
Aspirational careers: Construction director, building company manager, building inspector

Entry requirements

Must complete initial assessment and be working towards Level 1 maths and English
