About the course

On this two-year level 3 Games Design programme, you will develop technical skills relating to areas such as character design, level design, narrative and story writing, video editing, virtual and augmented reality, audio production, game engine language and coding, input devices and platforms.

You will be using specialist software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Illustrator and After Effects, Unreal Engine, Unity, Blender, Autodesk and more.

In the first year you will undertake various projects focussed on developing fundamental skills in games design, before embarking on a final creative project.

In the second year you will explore personal progression routes within the games industry, learning about the different departments and roles before producing a five-year plan for your career. You will also develop an online professional portfolio and create your own personal marketing materials. Your final project will be linked to an employer in the creative industries and give you the opportunity to develop advanced technical skills relating to games design, leading to an end of year showcase.

Employment in roles such as concept artists, animators, gameplay designers, level designers, VFX artists, sound designers, engine and gameplay programmers and more

 

Entry requirements

4 GCSE’s grade 4 and above including maths. English minimum grade 3

Additional information

Resources – You will have access to our extensive range of camera, lighting, audio, editing and IT equipment. However, we recommend that you have your own set of headphones (with a mini-jack connection) and an SD card 16gb+.

 

You will have the opportunity to go on trips to visit creative studios, galleries and cinemas as well as international trips such as to Paris. Guest speakers from creative universities and industry will enrich your learning at the college and help you decide on your future career aims.
