This one-year course is for students who have an existing Level 2 qualification in hairdressing who want to take their skills to a higher level. It combines advanced and creative techniques to further develop your practical skills preparing you for a successful career in hairdressing. You will be working in a real-life salon environment at The Retreat, completing practical assessments on members of the public. You be expected to complete written assignments and online exams. The course focuses on developing your skills to ensure you are work-ready, units include: advanced cutting techniques, advanced colour services including colour correction, creativite styling and hair up. All students also take part in hair competitions. The kit and uniform purchased for level 2 will also be required for the level 3 course however, an additional dolls head kit will be required.

Units:
– Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
– Consultation
– Cut women’s hair to create a variety of looks
– Style and dress hair using a varety of techniques
– Colour hair to create a variety of looks
– Perm hair to create a variety of looks
– Creative hairdressing design skills
– Hair colour correction

Careers and progression
Progressing to: University, spa management, colour specialist, jobs on cruise liners, or theatrical/media hair and make-up. HND in Business @Telford College
Aspirational careers: Celebrity stylist, art director, or spa management, working with industry brands such as Elemis, Champneys, Royston & Blythe, Wella, HeadMasters
Entry requirements
A full Level 2 hairdressing qualification NVQ or equivalent, plus GCSE at grade 4 or above in English and/or maths
Additional information
Students will have opportunties to attend trips, visits and guest speaker sessions. Students will be expected to work in the commercial salons and reception during salon days
All students will need to arrange and attend work experience – related to hairdressing.
