About the course

Health and social care combines scientific knowledge with vocational expertise to provide you the perfect balance of work related activities with knowledge. You will be taught by current practitioners in our industry standard facilities.

Topics and units

Human Lifespan and Development – This unit will cover PIES and factors affecting growth and development, interventions and the different professionals providing care and treatment.

Human Biology and Health – This unit will cover the human body structure and systems, normal physiological functioning and the impact of common disorders.

Human and Social Care Practice – This unit will cover the core principles, values and legislation that underpin and influence health and social care, and the effect of social determinants on an individual health status.

Promoting Health Education – This unit will cover health education, its purpose and use of different approaches and models to achieve positive health outcomes.

Careers and progression

Higher Education, apprenticeships and employment. Higher Education courses could include: nursing, midwifery, health and social care, healthcare and health science, health sciences, paramedic science, public health and wellbeing, social work.

Aspirational careers

Care service owner, nursing director, senor social worker and counsellor.

Entry requirements

Applications should have five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, Maths and a Science.

Additional information

50% of your qualification is made up of external assessment. Human Lifespan and Development and Human Biology and Health are assessed by examination in either the January or June of the year of study. Principles of Health and Social Care Practice and Promoting Health Education are assessed internally with assignment briefs set by BTEC.
