Intro to Basic Vehicle Maintenance – Part Time

About the course

This Course is suitable for anybody wanting to improve their skills and knowledge for basic Vehicle Maintenance whether you want to learn how to change a wheel, remove and refit light bulbs or even carry out an oil and filter replacement on your drive. All of this will help and ensure the safety of your passengers, regular inspections and repairs can help identify and address potential faults and hazards before they lead to a breakdown or an MOT fail.

Topics and units

Week 1- Vehicle and component identification: learners will be taught where and how to identify different systems of the vehicle and adjust and top up levels if needed.

Week 2- Vehicle electrics and light bulbs: learners will be shown how to correctly and safely test remove and refit a battery, remove and refit light bulbs.

Week 3- Basis Service oil and filter change.

Week 4- Wheel removal: showing learners how to safely change a wheel if ever stuck at the side of the road.

Week 5- Brakes: learners will be shown how to remove and refit a set of front brake discs and pads.

Entry requirements

– No Entry requirements are required for this as it is all basic and an introduction.

Additional information

Learners will be required to attend with PPE of boots and overalls and also bring notepad and pen to take notes.

Dates for this course run on Tuesday evenings, 6pm-9pm, from:

  • 14/01/25 – 11/02/25
  • 04/03/25 – 01/04/25
  • 13/05/25 – 17/06/25
