About the role

Join our growing Automotive department as an experienced Automotive Lecturer and play a key role in delivering exceptional Engineering education to full-time learners and apprentices. You’ll inspire and guide students, ensuring an outstanding learning experience that drives positive achievement outcomes.

In this role, you’ll also take on a variety of administrative and development tasks aimed at enhancing standards, achievements, and the overall learner experience.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Teach Engineering Subjects: Deliver high-quality lessons to Level 1-3 full-time students and apprentices, and Level 4-5 part-time students, ensuring success targets are met.
  • Monitor Learner Progress: Regularly review attendance and progress, following up to ensure students are on track to meet their targets.
  • Assess and Support Students: Conduct initial/diagnostic assessments, provide tailored support, and create differentiated learning strategies to help students reach their goals.
  • Provide Assessments & Feedback: Develop relevant assignments, assess student work (formative and summative), and give timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain Quality Systems: Design lesson plans, assessment activities, and ensure the quality of engineering teaching through curriculum planning and tracking.
  • Document & Track Progress: Keep electronic records up-to-date, including learner progress and ILPs on ProMonitor.
  • Engage in Quality Improvement: Attend curriculum meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of course materials and student outcomes.
  • Develop Teaching Resources: Create and update resources (including e-resources) to support engineering skill development.
  • Embrace Technology: Incorporate new teaching, learning, and assessment technologies to enhance the student experience.

 

Skills, knowledge and expertise

Qualifications and training

  • Teaching qualification, e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE or DTLLs, or a firm commitment to achieve a Diploma in Education and Training (DET)
  • Relevant Vocational Qualification at Level 3 (Motor Vehicle) (e.g. NVQ Level 3/Level 3 Work-based Diploma)
  • Strong occupational history and competence within the Automotive sector with extensive and in-depth knowledge
  • Ability to deliver high quality teaching in a variety of Automotive subject areas.
  • Assessment/Assessing/Assessor Qualifications (A1, TAQA, CAVA)
  • Level 2 qualification (GCSE A* – C, or equivalent) in maths and English or a willingness to attain these qualifications with the support of the College

Skills and expertise

  • Knowledge/experience of IMI qualifications
  • To be an inspiring teacher, enthusiastic with the ability to motivate students and a willingness and ability to tackle poor student performance.
