About the role

We have an exciting new vacancy arisen in our Functional Skills Department for a Full time English Lecturer, here at Telford College.

The main purpose of this post is to deliver outstanding GCSE and Functional Skills English provision to our full time students, through an exceptional student experience leading to positive achievement outcomes.

You will be delivering and teaching GCSE English and Functional Skills to 16-19 and adult learners at all levels to agreed success targets, here at the Telford Campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver and teach GCSE English and Functional Skills to 16-19 and adult learners at all levels to agreed success targets.
  • Regularly review and monitor the attendance and progress of learners and follow up as required to ensure learners achieve their targets.
  • Carry out, collate and feedback initial and/or diagnostic assessments to identify students’ ILP and support as required, providing differentiated learning strategies to enable students to achieve their primary learning goal.
  • Maintain quality systems related to the teaching of GCSE and Functional Skills including: designing work schemes, lesson plans, assessment plans and assessment activities.
  • Update and maintain electronic documentation up to date to support teaching and learning, assessment and tracking of learner progress.
  • Develop quality resources (including e-resources) which support the development of GCSE and Functional skills English.
  • Prepare and enter learners for exams in a timely basis, and invigilate Entry level examinations.
  • Liaise with the English Team and Head of Maths and English, including attending IV and standardisation meetings.
  • Actively support the embedding of English into vocational area and participate in curriculum development regarding the teaching and learning of Functional skills/GCSE English.
  • Keep up to date with current developments and adapt to changes in GCSE English and Functional Skills.
Skills, knowledge and expertise

Qualifications and training

  • Teaching qualification, e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE or DTLLs, or a firm commitment to achieve a Diploma in Education and Training (DET)
  • Possess an appropriate degree in a relevant subject.
  • Level 2 qualification (GCSE A* – C, or equivalent) in maths and English or a willingness to attain these qualifications with the support of the College.

Skills and expertise

  • Experience in teaching GCSE and/or Functional Skills English and/or Stepping Stone qualifications
  • Experience of working within a post 16 setting.
  • Experience of working effectively with a wide range of learners with broad starting points, levels of achievement and SEND.
  • Understanding and prior Experience of adhering to examination board requirements, internal verification, standardisation and external verification.
