About the role

An exciting new position as a Food Technician has arisen within the Catering Department (The Orange Tree) at Telford College. This is a great role, offering term time hours.

The main purpose of this post is to support an outstanding provision to learners in Hospitality and Catering.

Supporting the day to day running of the Orange Tree restaurant, completing food orders, liaising with finance to organise invoices and maintaining Health and safety within the kitchens.

Manage service days and events internally and externally. Ensuring students are supported in their learning and customers receive a positive experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • To maintain the Orange Tree restaurant and two kitchens to an exceptional hygiene standard, remove all waste from both kitchens and restaurant and liaise with Site Services for hygiene and waste disposal etc.
  • To manage the purchase of provisions and stock control ensuring that both kitchens have the required ingredients and equipment to complete lessons and service.
  • Order food stock weekly to meet Tutor’s requirements for the following week. Including liaising with the finance department to ensure prompt payment of invoices.
  • Be responsible for receiving deliveries and completing stock check of food into stores.
  • Possess good IT skills in order to complete orders and monitor catering stock.
  • Identify any issues relating to equipment maintenance and notify the relevant department, adhering to Telford College health and safety policies. Ensure sufficient stock of PPE. Ensure a copy of the food handling/safety certificate is available and on-site risk assessment are up to date within the restaurant.
  • Maintain laundry provision including the rotation of tea towels, over gloves, dish cloths and student uniforms and managing restaurant laundry when required.
  • Liaise with staff to discuss day to day operations and implement requests, accordingly, assisting the team where needed in a proactive manner.
  • Co-ordinate back of house management of the Orange Tree restaurant, ensuring service equipment and linen is available. Some evening hours may be involved

Qualifications and training

  • Relevant Qualifications are desirable within the food industry.
  • GCSE Maths & English

  • Relevant experience working in a within a kitchen and restaurant environment
  • Good communication & interpersonal skills at individual and group level.
  • Knowledge and/or competencies of health and safety as relevant to the post and a commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of learners and others.
