Some people may have holidays booked or, in the case of a lot of our students, they will be studying and preparing for exams or coursework deadlines. But what can you do to make the most of your Easter break?
With the end of our spring term in sight, we’ve spoken to our staff and scoured the local area to devise a list of fun activities to keep the family entertained.
Shropshire Easter Events
There are numerous events going on for the whole family in Telford and the wider area, including an exciting Easter egg hunt at Attingham Park – featuring our creative student’s work.
The hunt, starting on Saturday 5th April, features ten funfair-themed Easter stations across the trail route, including several photo walls designed by our talented students.
The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust have four events on across their venues, including a technical ‘Crash Test Bunnies’ challenge at Enginuity, Easter bunny clay workshops at the Coalport China Museum, tile decorating workshops at the Jackfield Tile Museum and ‘A Very Victorian Easter’ celebration at Blists Hill Victorian Town.
For children attending school, from reception to year 11 who receive free school meals, Telford and Wrekin are running their ‘happy healthy active holiday’ scheme.
Set the wheels in motion for a locomotive weekend, with Telford Steam Railway Easter services on Sunday 20th & Monday 21st April.
The Severn Valley Railway are also offering Easter holiday adventures from 12th-27th April, with numerous exciting activities to take part in.
There is also a plethora of events on at Weston Park, Apley Estate, RAF Cosford and Telford Wonderland that’ll be sure to excite the whole family.
Although, if you’re looking for a day in the house, we’ve asked some of our areas across college to provide some exciting activities from the comfort of your own home.

Showstopping Hair Techniques
Do you fancy testing your hair and beauty skills?
Our hair and beauty lecturer Kyleigh has put together a fantastic shampooing and blow-drying tutorial so you can get a salon look from home.
“We start at the backwash area, where attention to detail iss key. Water temperature is carefully tested to ensure client comfort and hair protection. We applied Matrix Mega Sleek Shampoo, using effleurage and rotary massage techniques to encourage scalp circulation and remove product build-up. We then follow this with a second shampoo for a deep cleanse and then Mega Sleek Conditioner through the lengths and ends, avoiding the roots to maintain volume and avoid greasiness.
“After rinsing, towel-dry the hair and gently detangled it using the correct method – starting from the ends and working up in small sections to prevent breakage. Then applied Matrix Miracle Creator, a powerful multi-benefit leave-in treatment that provides heat protection, frizz control, and added smoothness.
“Using a medium heat and airflow setting, we use sectioning and blow-drying techniques to create a smooth and polished result. Working in one-inch sections, direct airflow from root to tip to seal the cuticle and enhance shine.
“To elevate the final look, style the hair using curling tongs and straighteners, directing curls away from the face for a flattering, cohesive finish. Then brush through with a paddle brush and set with a light mist of hairspray for hold and longevity.”

Getting Crafty – Creating the Cutest Bunny Baskets with Construction
Our construction department have been hard at work, creating crafts to sell in our student-run shop including a selection of cute bunny-themed gift baskets.
To make your very own, construction lecturer Angela Pritchard talks us through the process;
“Firstly, we cut plywood down to the size we wanted to have our baskets, to match the size of the pre-made box we had. Students drew a rabbit shape on the wood, then used a coping saw to cut the shape out.
“We then filed the edges to get them smooth, painted the bunny faces white and added the features using marker pen, but you could also use paint.
“Then, for our design, we cut out a 50mm x 50mm base, however you could use a bigger size for a bigger egg, and glued them together, placing the box between the faces. The final step is to add your Easter eggs.”
