Keely Hill-Harding, the newest member of the Telford College’s apprenticeship team, is thriving in her new business administrator apprenticeship.
An exciting role split between the employability and apprenticeship departments, Keely’s enthusiastic approach to her work is spurred on by her experience working with both areas as a student.
Previously a student at Tettenhall College, Keely was looking to change career from the factory work she previously held, with aspirations for a role in business.
Her journey with Telford College started in 2023, where she visited a jobs fair and discussed short courses with the college’s employability team. She signed up for a business and customer service workshop, which inspired her to follow a career in business.
“The application process was straightforward; I was kept up to date with the whole process from my first contact, interview and when I accepted the position.
““Within the apprenticeships team I manage trackers, updating our apprenticeship candidates on their progress and informing team members on any updates to any candidates, as well as filing and administration tasks the team set me.
In the college’s employability department, Keely processes enrolments for the distance learning provision, contact’s the team’s pool of learners to promote courses of interest and checks that all applicants meet each courses’ eligibility criteria.
“I really enjoy going between environments and assisting both teams where I can. No two days are ever the same!”
At the end of her apprenticeship, Keely wants to stay at the college and support both teams. “I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do when I finished school, I was always told the route forward was A levels and university, however it’s taken me until now to find a career I enjoy and a job that I love.”
The business administrator apprenticeship is a level three qualification, lasting 18 months, that prepares apprentices for a career in administration, whilst supporting their progression towards future management opportunities.
Charlotte Bostock, recruitment specialist for apprenticeships at Telford College, said: “It’s great to have Keely in our team. Her first-hand experience as an apprentice allows her to give the best advice to our candidates in their journey.
“She has a fantastic skillset and the college has the right support to help enhance those skills and develop her career further. The business administrator apprenticeship promotes communication, networking and offers support to each area’s workload so they can be as efficient as they can.
“We’re proud to say we can develop skilled employees through our apprenticeship scheme. We believe strongly in the programme and have lots of different apprentices integrated in various teams across the college.”
