Two local businesses have donated paint to Telford College’s construction department to help train the next generation of decorators.
Brewers Decorator Centre, which sells designer and trade paints from Hadley Trade Park, and PaintWell which supports trade professionals and DIY-ers, have both supplied free products in recent weeks.
Tutor Barry Mason said: “It’s brilliant to have businesses like these on board with us. Their donations help to improve the quality and variety of teaching we can deliver to our students.”
Brewers has donated some leftover paints from showhome developments on local building sites to the college – in containers which can then be taken back to the branch and recycled.
Rob Bayfield, area development manager for Brewers in the Midlands, said: “We want to be supporting the college going forward. The ex-display products and other ‘mis-tints’ would be otherwise disposed of, so it’s a win-win all round.
“It’s really important for us to support students through their studies. These are our customers of the future, who will hopefully make us their go-to merchant for materials when they work in the industry.”
Barry added: “It’s brilliant to have Brewers on board now they have opened a branch in Telford. They have been so supportive with providing paints, colour charts, literature for the students – and some gifts too.
“Thanks to their donations we can explore colour theory, and different finishes, in a lot more depth by using it on the wall instead of showing students on a whiteboard. It will also help improve the quality of our evening taster sessions.”
Lynn Hemming from Telford College’s vocational and skills team, said: “We also received a telephone call from Paintwell several weeks ago saying they would like to donate unwanted paint for our construction students to use.
“The paint came in all sizes and colours, and the company has offered to bring more paint in the future, as and when it has supplies. We are incredibly grateful to them for their support – it makes a huge difference to the learning experience for our students.”
