Prepare for take-off: Travel and Tourism course is returning

Preparing for take off . . . the college is relaunching its travel and tourism courses

Telford College is relaunching its Travel and Tourism course, offering a passport to one of the largest and most exciting business sectors in the UK.

Enrolment is now under way for the new two-year vocational diploma, which will be running at the college’s Haybridge campus in Wellington from September next year.

Jemma Harrison, learner manager for business at Telford College who has more than a decade of experience teaching tourism, said: “People don’t always appreciate how many different career opportunities are available in this sector.

“This course is perfect for anyone who likes the idea of becoming a holiday rep, airline cabin crew or travel agent – but it can also open doors to jobs in event or hotel management, marketing, museums, customer service, and much more.”

The travel and tourism sector contributes nearly £250 billion to the UK economy and employs over 2.5 million people.

Study elements on the new Telford College course will include customer service, working as a holiday rep, events, conferences and exhibitions, and handling air passengers.

“A significant amount of learning will be taking place outside the classroom, and we are in the process of finalising some exciting off-campus trips, which will be a vital part of the study programme,” Jemma added.

“You will learn valuable skills around presentation and communication which are fully transferable, and will set you up for life.”
