A new volleyball team has been set up at Telford College to increase the range of sporting opportunities for students.
Telford Volleyball Club is providing coaches to help deliver training sessions, which are held on campus every Wednesday afternoon.
The team got off to a winning start in its first match, beating Wrekin College by three sets to nil, and has a return fixture planned next month
Claire Riekstins, from the college’s sports team, said: “This is the first time we have had regular volleyball training sessions.
“They proved very successful, so we have started to organise some fixtures.”
Students selected for the Wrekin College game were Tom Brelsford, Tristan Hughes, Roman Randel, Sohail Khan, Armaan Khan, Austin Hilton, Kailum Ryan-Purcell, and Katie Wear.
Telford College has a range of competitive sport teams, including boys, girls and ‘ability counts’ football teams.
With two matches of the season to go, the boys’ team are top of their division in the Association of Colleges (AoC) West Midlands league and eyeing up the title.
The ability counts team trains twice a week and takes part in regular AoC Sport pan disability tournaments.
Telford College also has a basketball team which competes in regular friendlies against other local colleges.
