This combines humanities and science-based knowledge to unlock the mysteries of our world. If you are interested in applying scientific principles to help understand and ultimately manage the Earth and natural resources, and combining that with human interactions, then this is the course for you. Whether you are passionate about social justice or environmental conservation, geography provides a roadmap for change.

There will be three examinations at the end of your second year of study: 

Paper 1 – Physical Systems (worth 22% of the qualification)
Paper 2 – Human Interactions (worth 22% of the qualification)
Paper 3 – Geographical Debates (worth 36% of the qualification)

There is also a 4000-word piece of coursework which is worth 20% of the qualification.

Work placement opportunities:
Royal Geographical Society, Environment Agency, Soil Association, Government agencies
Progressing to: Higher education humanities courses. Can support many other study areas such as biology, business studies and economics.
Aspirational careers: Environmental consultant, landscape architect, cartographer, surveyor, tour guide, urban planner, conservation officer
5 GCSEs at grades 9-4, including English Language at Grade 5 and maths. If taken at GCSE, a minimum grade 4 in geography. If GCSE geography has not been taken, you will need to discuss your motives for wanting to study the subject.
Exams and Coursework
Trips will include visits to universities and four days of field work activity including visits to Liverpool, Birmingham and beach locations.
