Our Careers Service plays a central role in supporting students to make informed, ambitious and realistic decisions about their future, in line with Ofsted expectations for high-quality Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG).
We are proud to hold the Matrix Standard accreditation, recognising the quality, impartiality and effectiveness of our careers guidance provision.
All students benefit from access to weekly drop-in sessions where students can receive advice and support with CV writing, UCAS applications and student finance. Ensuring they are well prepared for their next steps.
For more personalised guidance, students can book one-to-one appointments with a fully qualified careers adviser, tailored to their individual aspirations, strengths and progression routes. This supports students to make informed choices and raise their ambitions, a key priority within the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework.
All students are given access to Unifrog, a high-quality online platform that brings together information on university courses, apprenticeships and a wide range of career pathways, helping them make well-informed decisions about their future.
Throughout the year, students will have opportunities to visit universities, UCAS Discovery events where a wide range of universities are available for them to explore their options and take part in The Telford Skills Show, which brings together a broad range of employers. We also host our own on‑campus careers fair, giving them the chance to meet employers and explore local opportunities first‑hand. These experiences support the Gatsby Benchmarks, particularly:
We also run dedicated support events for parents and carers, recognising the important role families play in career decision-making and progression.
Making music his future, former Telford College student Caleb is now thriving at BIMM University in Birmingham after excelling on his Level 3 studies. Leaving college with the highest possible grades, Caleb turned his passion into a clear progression route into the creative industries, proving that talent, dedication and the right support can open doors. He said “The support and encouragement I received gave me the confidence to take the next step and apply to BIMM.”
Digital T Level student Tyler Floyd‑Morgan was praised as “a credit to the college” after impressing employers during his industry placement with automated technology specialist iconsys. Tyler spent nine weeks working alongside their professional IT team, gaining hands‑on experience on real‑world projects and rapidly developing both his technical and workplace skills. He said: “I’ve enjoyed it a lot and have got so much out of my work placements, which have given me the chance to apply the technical skills I learn at college.”
The Gatsby Benchmarks are a framework of eight standards that schools and colleges follow to make sure students receive high-quality career education and support.
