A level student Emily Hill is looking forward to starting her second year of studies at Telford College, with aspirations to become a physicist.
Originally a student at Madeley Academy, Emily first heard about the college from friends who already attended, choosing to study biology, maths and physics.
Emily says: “I love questioning everything and learning about the depths of how the universe works around us, which is why I fell in love with science.
“I chose biology as I have a fascination about nature and learning about how the human body works without us even having to think about it. With maths, I love to solve problems, learning how to utilise knowledge of equations and laws to be able to apply it to real scenarios.
“Physics is the subject I am most passionate about. I love learning about outer space and being able to apply what I know to be able to solve mysteries and unanswered questions about our world that is still current in research.
“I love being able to learn in private study time outside of the classroom. It gives so much flexibility to do homework and revise content we’re currently learning, which is an opportunity you don’t get in some other sixth forms.”
Emily was also one of a group of students who visited Westminster to take part in a parliamentary debate – find out more.
“Outside college, I’m a martial arts instructor at Kyushinkai Martial Arts in Madeley. I’ve been doing martial arts for 13 years, I’m a third dan black belt in karate and a second dan in weaponry.”
After studying at Telford College, Emily aspires to study physics at a Russel Group university, followed by a master’s degree and then a PhD.
Emily adds: “My dream job is to work as a research physicist, so I can contribute to unfolding the mysteries of the universe and world around us.”
Robert Bennion, learner manager for A levels at Telford College, said: “Emily is a truly outstanding student. She is hard-working and constantly achieves high grades in her assessments. She has a naturally inquisitive mind, and this is demonstrated in all her sessions with her teachers.
“Outside of lessons, Emily uses external hobbies to develop her communication, and other soft skills. She is an extremely approachable, communicative student who will no doubt progress into higher education with a STEM subject of her choice.”
