Fact-finding visit by local primary school heads

LCT primary school heads visit Telford College

Telford College welcomed a group of primary school head teachers to its Wellington campus for a fact-finding visit – paving the way for exciting new student placement opportunities.

The delegation, from the Learning Community Trust, included head teachers from schools in Wellington, Ketley Bank, Allscott, Hadley and Crudgington.

Rachael Round, learner manager for early years and education at Telford College, said: “This special visit was aimed at strengthening collaborative ties between the Trust’s schools and our early years and education department.

“Students had the opportunity to introduce themselves to the heads, sharing personal stories about their journeys into the education sector and their motivations for choosing this career path.

“It gave the school heads a valuable insight into the students who regularly undertake work placements in LCT nurseries and schools.”

The heads were also given a guided tour of the college’s facilities, including a newly developed bespoke nursery setting and the college’s celebrated health academy.

The state-of-the-art spaces not only support student learning but also provide continuing professional development opportunities for school staff, such as paediatric first aid and short courses in areas like counselling and understanding autism.

Rachael added: “The visit highlighted the strong and growing partnership between Telford College and the Learning Community Trust, reinforcing a shared commitment to nurturing future educators and supporting professional development across the sector.”

Maddie Griffin, director of primary education at the Learning Community Trust, said: “We were delighted to visit Telford College and see first-hand the incredible practical skills and experiences the young people are gaining.

“The facilities, from simulated hospital wards to nursery classrooms, are fantastic. Our heads were particularly pleased to be able to offer placements for students training as Early Years Foundation Stage practitioners and future primary teachers.

“The visit gave us real insight into how well-prepared these students are for their placements and it was inspiring to hear directly from them about their motivations and aspirations to work in education.”
