It’s Never Too Late to Get Behind The Wheel

Jacqueline Tranter

For Jacqueline Tranter, becoming a lorry driver had always been something she wanted to do, but the opportunity had never quite presented itself. Over the years, her career had taken several different directions, including working in hospitality before moving into deer management vermin control. When work in hospitality became quieter and the hours were no longer there, Jacqueline began considering what other opportunities might be available to her.

Having become a mother again at 47, Jacqueline had also found herself questioning what options were still open to her. Becoming a professional HGV driver was something she had always wanted to do, but she had come to believe that perhaps the opportunity had passed her by. That changed when she discovered through Telford College that she was eligible for a course that could help her pursue the career she had always wanted. Rather than letting the opportunity pass, Jacqueline decided to give it a go.

Having already heard plenty of positive things about Dulson Training, Jacqueline started her training with high expectations. Members of her family had previously trained with Dulson, so she already knew the company had a strong reputation and had heard good things about the experience from people close to her. Those expectations were certainly met, with Jacqueline particularly impressed by how friendly and professional everyone was throughout her training.

The support and guidance she received stood out to her throughout the experience. From the people she met to the way the training was delivered, Jacqueline found everything to be positive and helpful, describing it as a real pleasure to be at Dulson Training. For her, the experience has been about more than simply learning how to drive a larger vehicle. She feels that the training has helped her become a better driver, with the guidance she received giving her the confidence to continue developing her skills.

When asked whether there was one particular moment, lesson or insight that stood out during her training, Jacqueline’s answer was simple: “All of it.” She says she cannot fault the approach taken by the team and has found everyone she has dealt with to be friendly, professional, helpful and encouraging.

Perhaps one of the biggest things Jacqueline has taken from the experience is the importance of not holding yourself back. Having once thought that becoming a truck driver might no longer be possible for her, she now wishes she had pursued it sooner. Her advice to anyone considering HGV training is not to hesitate, but to throw yourself into it, face your fears and give yourself the opportunity to see what you can achieve.

Jacqueline is also keen to challenge the idea that HGV driving is only a career for a particular type of person. In her view, it is an option for everyone, whether you are younger or more mature, male or female, changing career or simply looking for a new challenge. Her own experience demonstrates that the opportunity to pursue something you have always wanted to do may be closer than you think.

When asked whether she would recommend Dulson Training, Jacqueline’s answer is an emphatic yes. She has been impressed by the friendliness, professionalism, support and encouragement she has received from the team and says the experience has been everything she could have wished for.

What began as a lifelong ambition that Jacqueline had once thought might never happen has now become a genuine career opportunity. By deciding to take that first step, she has shown that it is never too late to reconsider what might be possible and pursue something you have always wanted to do.
