Industry Placements

Work placements are an essential part of the learning journey at Telford College – giving students chance to experience a workplace environment. Work placements are linked to the study programme and give both our vocational and academic students an opportunity to apply their learning in a business environment

There are two types of work placements:

Placements give employers have an opportunity to view students over a period of time which helps with their recruitment strategy. We encourage students to gain as much work experience as they can, and negotiate with employers to increase opportunities to prove themselves work-ready.

Aims And Objectives Of A Work Placement

To give all full-time students a chance to gain unpaid practical, relevant work experience.
To widen student awareness of opportunities available in the community and the workplace and make informed career choices.
To develop interpersonal and social skills of students by broadening their contact with a range of adults, and assess their capabilities in a work environment.
To develop students’ abilities to appraise their own progress and achievement, and raise awareness of health and safety policies and processes.

T Levels – Working in Partnership with Employers

We have worked closely with some of the area’s biggest employers to help launch our T-Level programme. Each T-Level is equivalent to three A levels, and features a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience. T-level students will typically spend 80% of the course in the classroom, and the other 20% in a meaningful industry placement, where they put their newly-learned skills into action.

We will work with each employer separately to ensure you have everything in place for the T-Level industry placement.
We will match the right student to the right employer
We agree the right placement model to suit you
We help with monitoring the student placement
We provide health and safety support, advising on safeguarding procedures
