Students showcase their skills at ‘reverse jobs fair’

Telford College students got chance to showcase their skills to local employers at a successful ‘reverse jobs fair’.

The event was hosted by logistics company Kuehne + Nagel, which has one of its big UK bases at MOD Donnington.

More than a dozen students from the college’s Supported Internship programme took part in the event, where the usual roles of a traditional jobs fair were flipped.

Instead of employers setting up stalls and candidates walking around to introduce themselves, the jobseekers themselves were the hosts, and employers circulated to meet them at their display stands.

Helen Collins, SEND review and transition team leader at Telford College, said: “The event gave employers the chance to meet enthusiastic young jobseekers who are ready to start work and discover if they are a great fit for their organisation.

“This is the second year we have run the event, and we must say a big thank you to all the employers who came along to meet our interns.”

She added: “Students showcased their transferable skills, motivation, and potential to local employers through professionally presented display boards.

“These included photographs from their work experience placements, alongside feedback from their mentors, providing a well-rounded view of their achievements.

“They also brought printed copies of their CVs to share with employers, demonstrating their preparedness and professionalism.”

She added: “It was wonderful to see our students demonstrate such strong confidence when engaging with employers, clearly articulating their career interests and the skills they have developed through their placements.

“Some of them were hesitant to speak with unfamiliar people at the start of the academic year and have shown remarkable progress. It was truly impressive to witness the extent of their growth and development.”
