ABOUT
COURSE

WATCH NOW

For students supported by an EHCP. Our foundation learning courses are specifically designed to support students with additional learning support needs, including a high staff to student ratio, small group sizes, specialist facilities and resources, and a dedicated staff team.

This programme is aimed at developing students’ self-awareness, confidence, independence, communication skills, social skills and employability skills in preparation for future employment and/or progression onto a vocational course of interest.
Students will also be given the opportunity to undertake functional skills or GCSEs in English and maths, as appropriate to their starting points.

With an understanding that some of our students may not ever be fully independent in accessing a work placement we strive to teach them the skills needed to be as independent as possible in a working environment.

Students will be provided with lots of opportunities to complete internal work experience placements within the college, including our business enterprises in retail, hospitality and catering. This provides students with a safe and familiar environment in which they can begin to learn and develop their work-related skills. Once the skills are embedded and the students are confident, they will have the opportunity to undertake external placements of interest within the local community, where students will be closely supported by qualified staff. By exposing the students to different working environments at this stage, it allows our staff to support them in making an informed decision about what job they may wish to pursue in the future.

Progress onto vocational or academic courses of interest, a supported internship, volunteering or accessing the local community with the appropriate support.
Usually special school leavers, aged 16, usually assessed as pre-entry level- entry level 2 with an identified SEN need. Students will be supported by an EHCP. Students still receive specialist support but can learn in small groups or with a high ratio of support.

Students at The Willow Tree Centre may have an additional diagnosis of profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), complex needs and/ or challenging behaviour; they will usually be assessed as pre-entry levels and will be supported by an EHCP. Students within this provision will have a higher ratio of support based on individual needs.
