ABOUT THE ROLE

This role supports the operational management of the library service, helping to maintain an academically focused, supportive, and well-organised learning environment for students and staff. The postholder will contribute to the coordination of library services, digital learning resources, and reprographics provision, ensuring resources and facilities are accessible, effective, and responsive to learner needs.

A key aspect of the role involves delivering study skills support and academic workshops that promote learner attainment, independence, confidence, and progression towards higher education or employment. The successful candidate will work closely with students to encourage effective study habits and create a positive, inclusive learning experience.

The role also contributes to the wider life of the college by supporting events and cross-college activities such as open evenings, enrolment, results days, transition events, and other initiatives as required. Through this involvement, the postholder will play an important part in enhancing the overall student experience and supporting the college community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Library, ensuring a calm, inclusive, and academically focused environment that supports independent learning, study, and student engagement.
  • Provide targeted 1:1 and group study-skills support, delivering workshops and interventions that improve academic resilience, independent learning, and learner attainment across sixth-form pathways.
  • Oversee library resources, digital platforms, and learning materials, ensuring students can effectively access, navigate, and utilise high-quality academic and enrichment resources.
  • Manage reprographics requests across the college, producing high-quality printed and learning materials to support curriculum delivery and college operations.
  • Operate and maintain printing and finishing equipment including digital printers, booklet makers, laminators, binding machines, and guillotines, ensuring efficient print-job management and timely turnaround through a digital ticketing system.
  • Deliver impartial careers guidance and progression support, including HE, apprenticeships, and employment pathways, through workshops, signposting, and student-centred guidance aligned to Gatsby benchmarks.
  • Work collaboratively with curriculum, pastoral, SEND, Student Services, Careers, and Learning Resource teams to ensure a consistent and high-quality learner support offer across campuses.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to convey accurate information and respond well to individuals at all levels.
  • Ability to work effectively on your own initiative as well as being part of a team.
  • Confident disposition – able to deal with all levels of staff, contractors and students and be able to deal with challenging situations where necessary.
  • Ability to meet targets and deadlines and be able to respond quickly to the varying needs of the service.
  • Professional approach to duties and presentation. Commitment to working to high standards and providing a quality service.
  • A strong commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and promoting equitable opportunities for all learners.
  • Experience delivering academic study‑skills or academic mentoring training

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

  • A good standard of formal education with a minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent (including Maths and English) grades A-C.)
  • Minimum Level 4 qualification related to education, youth work, libraries or relevant field.
