Five-star food hygiene rating for The Orange Tree

Telford College catering tutors Rob Lee and Andy Minchin celebrate the five-star rating for The Orange Tree

Telford College’s on-site restaurant, The Orange Tree, has been given a five-star food hygiene rating.

It followed a visit to the Wellington campus by environmental health officers from the local authority.

The public protection department at Telford & Wrekin Council said The Orange Tree team ‘achieved the highest possible food hygiene rating’ following the unannounced inspection.

Andy Turner, the college’s director of vocational studies said: “We’re delighted to have received the highest possible food hygiene rating, which is recognition of the hard work and high standards of the team.”

With its two professional kitchens, The Orange Tree gives students chance put their catering skills to the test in a realistic working environment, similar to a large restaurant or hotel.

The restaurant can seat up to 50 people, and served up Christmas lunches to the local community in the run-up to Christmas. More public opening dates are due to be announced soon.

The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is designed to help people choose where to eat out or shop for food by giving information about the hygiene standards in restaurants, pubs, cafés, takeaways, and hotels.

The scheme is run by the council in partnership with the Food Standards Agency.
