Telford College is promising a day of ‘discovery, creativity, and community spirit’ at its first Community Day.

The college’s Wellington campus will be open from 10am to 2pm on Saturday June 6 for a family-friendly day of music, food, and have-a-go activities.

College leaders say they are hoping to see the site buzzing with families, neighbours and local residents.

The music stage will include a performance from Telford College student Rory Black, who hit the headlines after being talent spotted by Robbie Williams’ long-time songwriter and producer Guy Chambers.

There will also be street food on sale from a range of traders, including familiar faces from Wellington Market.

Visitors will be able to explore interactive workshops, meet curriculum teams, try new activities, and discover the facilities used by students every day.

The automotive department is setting up a drag track, business students will be running a treasure hunt, and the creative department will be showcasing film and TV broadcast facilities including a green screen studio which has been used by a Hollywood stuntman.

The sports department will be running football activities, basketball, street dance, and the chance to have a go at curling, and there will be cookery demonstrations and workshops in the college’s on-site restaurant, The Orange Tree.

With live performances, demonstrations and plenty of family‑friendly fun, the college says there will be “something for everyone – whether you’re visiting for the first time or already part of our community.”

Telford College principal and chief executive Lawrence Wood said: “We want people to explore, discover new opportunities, and enjoy a relaxed, inclusive community celebration.”
