Students at Telford College are making the most of an extensive programme of enrichment activities designed to help them develop new skills, pursue personal interests and build friendships outside the classroom.
The programme developed for the new academic year offers a diverse range of clubs and activities including music, photography, journalism, creative writing, chess, street dance, recreational sports, Dungeons & Dragons, and more.
It has been developed with student interests firmly in mind, with learners from both the Wellington and Telford town centre campuses encouraged to put forward ideas and suggestions.
Alongside a busy timetable of organised clubs, students are taking advantage of facilities including the college gym, book exchanges and wellbeing-focused activities such as Mind Unwind sessions.
Off-campus ‘Afternoon Adventurers’ excursions – which have already included a trip to the Arthog Outdoor Education Centre in Wales – provide further opportunities for students to broaden their experiences beyond the college environment.
Rosie Baldwin-Jones, Telford College’s enrichment co-ordinator, said: “Enrichment is a hugely important part of the student experience. We want every student to feel there is something for them, whether that’s sport, creativity, wellbeing, reading, gaming or developing skills which could support their future careers.
“What makes the programme particularly special is that the students help to shape it. We actively encourage ideas and suggestions, and we are always looking at ways to introduce new opportunities which reflect the interests of our learners.
“The result is a vibrant programme which helps students get much more from their time at college, and make new friends with mutual interests.”
Joel Smith, the ‘Shropshire Dungeon Master’ who is leading the college’s Dungeons & Dragons sessions (pictured above), said: “It is great to be back here again this year running games with the students. It’s a real mixture of education and entertainment.”
