Telford College today revealed that students achieving high grades across A-level and vocational subjects has increased for a fourth consecutive year.
More than 700 students received their exam results at the Wellington campus today, with the college reporting a 4.2 per cent increase in the number of A* to B grades at A-level.
The number of A* to C grades students achieved has also gone up, with more subjects achieving a 100 per cent pass rate than in previous years.
Staff said the number of distinctions achieved in vocational courses, both BTEC and T-levels, also saw a strong increase with stand-out results in T-Level accounting and digital production, design and development.
Among the students picking up results today were Bertie Whitcombe, who secured A*, A, B in law, criminology and geography and will start training to be a pilot this autumn.
“I’m off to flight school in Oxford to follow an ambition I have had since I was young. My grandad wanted to be a pilot and so did my dad and I’ve been flying since I was young, so I’ve been inspired to do it.
“I’m so happy with my results, the staff here have been amazing throughout my time here at Telford College.”
Principal and CEO Lawrence Wood congratulated students on their efforts as they prepared to take their next steps into higher education, apprenticeships and the workplace.
He said: “Today’s results are testament to the hard work of our students.
“It’s good to see that consistent year-on-year improvement when it comes to students achieving top grades, both across A-levels and vocational courses. But we know there is still much more to do and we’re looking forward to continuing with that progress as we open our dedicated A-level centre, Telford 6th in September.
“For many of our young people, today marks an exciting milestone as they prepare for the next step in their education journey, whether that be at university or on an apprenticeship. We are here to support them wherever that next step may be.”
Student Summer Costello, who was named the college’s A Level student of the year, picked up an A in her EPQ A level, with Bs in history, business and English and is headed to Liverpool Hope University to study history, said: “My time at Telford College has been amazing and I am so pleased with my results.
“The teachers have been so supportive with everything, they have guided me along the way and have helped me achieve what I wanted.”
Engineering student Rebecca Draniceanu studied for a T Level and earned a distinction, paving the way for her clinical engineering degree apprenticeship with the NHS in Wolverhampton.
“I’m so pleased with my results and I have to thank the teachers who have been fantastic here. They have been willing to help me improve with everything and I’m excited for my next step.”
The college said students had secured excellent results in business, music, policing, public services, sport, art and design.
