Trials being held for our Wolves-backed sport course

Football trials in the college's indoor sports dome

Telford College is running trials for students interested in signing up for a football course in partnership with Wolves Foundation.

The ‘Football and Education’ programme gives students the chance to obtain a sports qualification alongside a series of enrichment opportunities with the Championship club.

Trials are being held at our Wellington campus for students interested in joining the programme next year. The next session is on Monday, October 26, from 11am to 1pm.

This year Telford College is running both boys’ and girls’ teams, who are combining their studies with competitive football fixtures against other foundation teams, representing Wolves in the famous old gold and black.

The two-year course gives students a level three diploma in sport, with valuable industry knowledge in areas such as anatomy and physiology, sports coaching, sports science and performance analysis.

It also provides them with exclusive access to the behind-the-scenes operations of a professional football club.

This year’s cohort has already visited Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Molineux stadium for a tour, official photoshoot, and a chance to meet some of the club’s key officials.

Teddy Munroe, student development officer with Wolves Foundation, said: “This exciting course offers students the opportunity to represent the Foundation while studying for a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport.

“Alongside studying, students have the chance to represent Wolves Foundation in an exclusive EFL League playing against the likes of Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and many more.

“The course is for students aged 16 to 18, and gives them opportunities to explore career pathways in coaching, teaching, and sports science.

Teddy said: “We’d love to see potential football stars of the future at our latest taster session. Numbers will be limited, so anyone interested should register in advance.”

Students on the Wolves Foundation course have access to some of the best facilities in the area at Telford College. These include a double sized sports hall, an indoor 3G football pitch, an outdoor 3G all-weather pitch, professional studio and well-stocked gym.
