This one-year course is ideal if you’re a school leaver with some engineering knowledge and experience who would like a deeper understanding of the role of a modern engineer.

You will learn about the role of an engineer, what it means to be employed in the engineering sector, what kinds of material engineered products are manufactured from, and why. You will also use complex machines to manufacture component parts from material such as mild steel and aluminium.

– Engineering environment awareness
– Engineering techniques
– Engineering maths and science

Along with the mandatory units, the Level 2 Machinist will study:
– Manual Milling Techniques
– Manual Turning Techniques
– Understanding Computer Aided Design
– Engineering Manufacturing Techniques

Along with the mandatory units, the Level 2 Maintenance will study:
– Manual Welding Techniques
– Electrical and Electronic Principles
– Fitting and Assembly techniques
– Engineering maintenance planning.
Progressing to: engineering level 3 or aviation, an engineering apprenticeship or employment with local companies such as Avara Foods, Epson, and Moveero (formerly GKN Wheels)

Aspirational careers: Mechatronics maintenance technician, manufacturing technician, design technician
4 GCSEs at grade 3, including English or maths
This course is graded through externally marked exams and assessments.
