A nationally recognised qualification for adults aged 19+ looking to progress into university who may not have traditional Level 3 qualifications. It’s ideal for those returning to education or changing career direction, particularly into people-focused roles, and introduces learners to core social science subjects such as psychology, sociology, and criminology.

Sociology units: Sociological Theory (An Introduction), Sociology of Education, Crime and Deviance, Understanding Poverty, Globalisation. Psychology units: Key Studies in Psychology, Early Social Development, Psychology of Mental Health and Illness, Social Psychology, Behaviourism, The Psychology of Criminal Investigation. Related Studies and Study Skills: Progressing to HE, Presentation Skills, Extended Essay
The course provides UCAS points that will allow you to apply for courses in a wide range of fields including those within the health sector.
Careers: Teaching, social work, probation officer, psychology, policing, criminology
3–5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including maths and English. Routes are available if you need to attain GCSE maths/English
Most units are assessed through written work such as written assignments and reports, including some essays. Some units are assessed via an exam, or through presentations.
Work experiences is encouraged where possible to support university applications. The course does include a range of offsite visits to local universities and guest speaker talks from UCAS, University Professionals and Alumni.
