The T Level in accounting is a high quality, career focused qualification that combines classroom learning with real workplace experience. Equivalent to three A levels, this course is perfect for students who enjoy numbers, problem solving, and working towards a professional career in finance or accounting.

The course starts with a strong focus on business in year 1, giving you a solid understanding of how organisations operate before you specialise. You’ll explore how businesses make decisions, manage money, operate ethically, and use technology to succeed.

This business first year covers key areas such as finance, law, ethics, and digital systems, and includes an introduction to SAGE accounting software to begin building your accounting skills. In year 2, you move into the occupational specialism Assistant Accountant, applying your business knowledge to real accounting tasks. You’ll gain hands on experience preparing financial statements, analysing business performance, and supporting tax, audit, and payroll functions. You’ll use SAGE software for more advanced, practical activities that reflect real workplace expectations.

Alongside exams and an employer set project, you’ll complete a 315 hour industry placement, giving you valuable experience in a professional environment. By the end of the course, you’ll be confident, work ready, and prepared for employment, apprenticeships, or further study in accounting, finance, or business.

This course enables students to develop a broad understanding of the business and accounting profession, providing a strong foundation in key industry concepts. Learners will explore topics such as the business environment, regulations, and security and risks, alongside gaining an introduction to the fundamentals of law. The programme also emphasises professional standards, including professionalism, ethics, and equality, diversity and inclusion, as well as raising awareness of career opportunities within the accounting profession.

As part of the occupational specialism in assistant accounting, students will build practical skills such as producing and analysing a trial balance, preparing primary financial statements, and analysing business performance to present results. In addition, learners will gain experience supporting tax and audit functions and preparing payroll computations, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed for progression into accounting roles or further study.
This qualification opens the door to exciting futures, including entry-level roles in accounting and payroll, apprenticeships (such as professional accountant or taxation technician), and progression to higher education programmes in accounting, finance, business.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above, including maths and English
Four externally assessed exams, three in year 1 and one in year 2.
What makes this course stand out is its real-world focus. With a substantial industry placement, employer-designed content, and hands-on accounting tasks using SAGE accounting software, students gain professional experience, build confidence, and develop practical skills that give them a real advantage when progressing.
