Take your first step into the world of business.

The Pearson BTEC level 1 introductory diploma in business is an ideal starting point for learners who want to explore how businesses work while developing key skills for the future. This theory-based course is designed to build confidence, independence, and workplace readiness. Whether your goal is further study, an apprenticeship, or employment, this qualification provides the foundations you need to move forward.

The course provides a practical and supportive introduction to the business world. The course is designed to help learners develop the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to progress into further study, training, or employment. Throughout the course, learners will explore how businesses operate and the roles people play within them. They will develop confidence in communication, teamwork, organisation, and problem-solving through a range of practical tasks and real-life business scenarios. Emphasis is placed on building employability skills and preparing learners for the workplace.

This course covers a wide range of practical topics designed to build essential workplace and enterprise skills. Learners will explore how to be organised and develop a personal progression plan to support their future goals. The course also focuses on teamwork through working with others, as well as research skills such as researching a topic and finding out about businesses in their local area. Students will gain an understanding of marketing by learning about branding a product and presenting a business idea. In addition, they will develop hands-on experience by contributing to running an event and practising how to communicate effectively with customers. The course is further supported by developing routine office administration skills, preparing learners for real business environments.
This course prepares students for progression to a level 2 qualification, such as a BTEC level 2 in business or a related subject. Learners who achieve a merit will be well placed to progress to level 2 study.

This course is designed to help learners move forward with confidence into their chosen pathway, as well as entry-level employment with opportunities for further training and development.
4 GCSEs at grade 2, including maths or English (with the other a minimum of a 1 or entry 3)
This course is assessed through ten coursework units.
This course creates opportunities. Learners gain confidence, explore future pathways, and work alongside students from other levels. It’s a supportive stepping stone that helps learners develop skills, make connections, and prepare for the next stage of their education or career journey.
