The Pearson BTEC level 3 national extended diploma in business is a dynamic, industry focused course for students who want to understand how businesses operate in the real world. It develops leadership, analytical, and professional skills while preparing learners for university, higher level study, or exciting careers in business.

This course is designed for ambitious learners who want to develop a deep understanding of business and management while gaining practical, real world skills. Through a blend of coursework and exams, students explore how businesses operate locally, nationally, and globally, while developing confidence, independence, and professional behaviours.

Learning is hands on and engaging. You will work on realistic business projects, analyse real organisations, plan events, manage finances, develop marketing campaigns, and build decision making and leadership skills. The course reflects modern business practices, including digital marketing, customer experience, international trade, and people management. By the end of the programme, students leave with a strong business skillset, clear progression routes, and the confidence to succeed in higher education or the workplace.

This course provides an in-depth understanding of how businesses operate, combining theory with practical application to prepare learners for higher education or employment.

Students will explore core concepts such as exploring business, personal and business finance, and principles of management, alongside developing analytical skills in business decision making and market research. The course places a strong emphasis on marketing, including developing a marketing campaign and digital marketing, helping learners understand how businesses attract and engage customers.

Learners will also gain valuable real-world experience through managing an event and investigating customer service, as well as understanding workforce processes such as recruitment and selection, training and development, and team building.

In addition, the course covers broader global and strategic perspectives with topics like international business, ensuring students develop a well-rounded and comprehensive view of the modern business environment.

Entry into degree programmes in business, marketing, management, finance, or HR

Progression into business-related apprenticeships or employment
4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English or maths, with the remaining core subject at grade 3 minimum. Students progressing from level 2 must have achieved a merit
Four externally assessed exams, two in year 1 and two in year 2. Nine internally assessed coursework units.
This course prepares students for the real business world. Through engaging projects, leadership development, and practical learning, students gain the confidence, skills, and experience needed to succeed at university or progress directly into professional business careers.
