The Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills (SEG Awards) develops your understanding of counselling theory and practice. You will build key skills such as active listening, empathy, and self-awareness, preparing you for further study or roles supporting others
in a range of professional and community settings.

Explore key counselling theories, ethical frameworks, and the counselling relationship. Develop practical skills including active listening, questioning and reflection, alongside self-awareness and personal development. Learn about boundaries, diversity and
professional practice, preparing you for progression to Level 4 or supportive roles.

Units typically include developing counselling skills, understanding counselling theory, and personal development. You will explore the counselling relationship, ethical practice, diversity and inclusion, and reflective practice, building the knowledge and skills needed to progress into further counselling training or supportive roles.
On completion, learners can progress to the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, or move into supportive roles in areas such as education, health and social care, or community work. The course also supports personal development and can enhance existing
roles involving communication and supporting others.
Level 2 Functional Skills English
GCSE Grade C/4 or above
Good written and verbal English
Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (online or face to face) OR significant experience in a supportive/mentoring role
The qualification is assessed in various formats; – Written work – Podcasts – Interviews – Practical Counselling Sessions (observed)
