ABOUT
COURSE

WATCH NOW

The King’s Trust Achieve programme at Telford College is intended as a supportive year for students who leave secondary school (16-19) without the academic or social skills to progress to the next level of their subject specialism.

The programme can provide a platform for students to try new things, develop new skills or improve existing ones, building their self-esteem and self-belief while gaining a level 1 or 2 qualification. The ‘Personal Development and Employability Skills’ curriculum recognises achievement with Ofqual recognised PDE qualifications issued by the King’s Trust.

This course leads to an award or certificate at level 1 or level 2, recognising the skills and knowledge learners have developed throughout the programme. Achieving this qualification provides formal recognition of their progress in areas such as teamworking, managing money, enterprise projects, digital skills, career planning, and wellbeing. It also helps learners build confidence, supports progression to further study or training, and demonstrates to employers that they have achieved a nationally recognised standard of learning and practical skills.

Students will have opportunity to undertake vocational taster sessions on college courses of interest, to find out more information about the course and to see if it is something they want to apply for the following academic year. This programme also gives the student time to develop their maths and English to give them the opportunity to gain the grades needed to progress onto the next programme in their desired subject specialism.

• Teamworking skills
• Managing money
• Undertake an enterprise project
• Digital skills
• Career planning
• Wellbeing – physical activity
Progress onto other college courses, develop your maths and English and be a more confident person.
There are no formal entry requirements for the course.

Our King’s Trust programme is suitable for students who:

– Can self-regulate their behaviour without the requirement for a separate or smaller bespoke building (i.e. can integrate into college life alongside a large cohort of peers in the canteen and other social areas of the open college campus).

– Have the motivation to attend a college setting regularly to meet the college expectations of 95% attendance or higher.

– Can learn in groups of up to 15 other students.
Workbooks & assignments
One of the main highlights of the course is the opportunity to gain work experience, which helps learners build confidence, develop employability skills, and understand the expectations of a workplace. The course also includes team-building activities, encouraging learners to work collaboratively, improve communication, and strengthen social skills. At the end of the programme, students receive a nationally recognised qualification, providing formal recognition of their achievements and helping them progress to further education, training, or employment. Overall, the course is valuable because it combines practical experience, personal development, and formal certification, giving young people the skills and confidence needed to succeed in their future careers and everyday life.
