  • Having a criminal conviction or restriction does not automatically prevent you from studying at Telford College. We will consider your individual circumstances, any support you may need and how you can safely access your chosen course.

  • You do not normally need to tell us about spent convictions (Check if your conviction is spent .Gov). For certain courses or placements, additional disclosure and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check may be required. We will explain when this applies and what you need to declare. You do not need to disclose protected convictions or cautions.

    If you are unsure what to declare, you can seek initial advice from our BeSafe team without giving your name.

    To make a disclosure or request a private discussion, please email besafe@telfordcollege.ac.uk. You do not need to include details of your conviction in your initial email. A member of the team will explain how to share information securely and may arrange a discussion with you.

    Information will be handled sensitively and shared only with those who need it to assess your application, arrange support or safeguard you and others.

    Deliberately withholding information you are required to declare, or providing false information, may lead to a review of your application or enrolment, which could result in withdrawal.
