Telford College has invested more than £200,000 into major car park improvements at its Wellington site, designed to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

The works began in July and have been completed ahead of students returning for the new academic year next week.

Telford College Director of Estates Dave Candlin explained how the scheme reflected the college’s commitment to improving facilities and listening to staff and students.

He said: “The project has seen a number of routes into the main access of the Haybridge Road campus reduced, which will ensure a smoother traffic flow in and out of the site.

“As part of the scheme, we are prioritising student drop offs and visitor access will be through defined routes and road markings.”

Elsewhere, new pathways have been created from Haybridge Road for crossing points, with clearly marked walking routes to the main building.

Vehicles are now zoned on site, with areas for visitors and drop-offs along with staff and students, another move designed to ease any congestion at busy times.

The current security barrier has been relocated and there will be improvements to the carriageways and traffic routes around the central park and the route past the Orange Tree restaurant as well as extensive planting.
